Wow, it’s been a while since I sew from the Big 5 Pattern. I am a big fan because it is abundant and cheap but the pattern instructions are often crappy. It always takes me double or triple the time to just interpret the instruction.
Anyway, this is my real first project with knit, so I am very excited and to be honest, I am quite happy with how it turns out. I have a ton of rooms for improvements though. The part I like about knit project is that I can just use my serger and run through the seam mindlessly. I am not too thrilled with hemming or topstitching because without a cover stitch it just doesn’t look that professional. I am sure there’s a way around it, I just have to research it.
Pattern Description: Simplicity 2369, it is a knit wrap dress
Pattern Sizing: I cut size 10 but ended up taking in 1″ total
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I think so, except my buckle is on the left rather right side. I misread the pattern but it still works
Were the instructions easy to follow? Not really, as usual, the drawing and instructions are not clear. I tried to visualize the look in my head and construct it that way
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Like: perfect addition to my summer and work outfit, relatively easy pattern with just the right number of pattern pieces. Because it is a knit material, it is also very forgiving
Dislike: the crappy instruction
Fabric Used: Jersey knit from Discount Fabrics in San Francisco (it’s been in my stash for 2 years). Btw, this store is popular among the Burning Man crowd
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: no alteration at all, well, I misplaced the right front, the buckle should be on the right but it’s on my left. oh well…
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I highly recommend it especially for the knit virgin but but I don’t think I will sew again (Like Erica B, there’re way too many patterns I want to try out)
